We are going to continue thePhotoMatch as a category of Sara’s blog.. catch it over there at www.sarakbyrne.com/category/photomatch/
Going into match #7 we decided to try something we were both unfamiliar with. We have both wanted a tilt-shift lens for quite some time, mostly for really rad architectural photography as well as portraits with a crazy focal plane.
One of Sara’s favorite wedding photographer (Sean Flanigan) uses a tilt/shift lens in almost every wedding:
We don’t have a tilt/shift lens (yet), but you can create the same effect.. and its dangerous.
Free Lensing is simply holding the lens unattached from the camera, you can have it at different angles (tilt) or off side to side (shift). This messes with the focal plane and puts different parts of the photo in or out of focus.
Here are the results of our first try:
It was way more difficult that we had imagined it would be, but we’ll keep practicing.. or shortly be dropping the cash on a real tilt/shift lens.
